Staff Accountant
Houston, TX Temporary $31.00 - $33.00/hr Onsite

Job Description

We're working with a company in the Galleria area seeking an Accountant I for a 6-month contract with potential for full-time hire.

Compensation: $31-33/hour
Schedule: Hybrid - up to 5 work-from-home days per month
Start Date: ASAP - actively interviewing

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the monthly maintenance of the fixed asset system, including recording additions, disposals, depreciation, and asset location changes
  • Prepare and maintain journal entries and general ledger accounts
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
  • Perform bank, credit card, and account reconciliations
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed
  • Prepare financial reports, schedules, and supporting documentation
  • Analyze financial data and investigate discrepancies
  • Assist with audits by preparing requested documentation and schedules
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls
  • Maintain organized accounting records and documentation
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Assist with sales tax filings and other regulatory reporting requirements
  • Collaborate with internal departments to resolve accounting-related issues

Minimum Educational and Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited institution
  • 1-3 years of experience preferred (open to candidates with more experience)
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel (formulas, pivot tables, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of GAAP reporting
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities
  • Experience with financial accounting software and ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
